CCSVI Screening

What is CCSVI?

CCSVI or Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency is a term created by Dr. Paolo Zamboni to describe compromised flow of blood in the veins draining the central nervous system. Essentially, the veins that transport blood from the brain are twisted and/or blocked causing blood to flow backwards (retrograde), thereby depositing high levels of iron in the brain. Deposits of iron can be toxic in the brain and set off a series of immune reactions leading to MS. CCSVI has been hypothesized to play a key role in the cause of multiple sclerosis.

Doppler Ultrasound & CCSVI

In his research, Dr. Zamboni utilized Doppler ultrasound to assess the veins in the neck that drain blood from the brain. Ultrasound is a preferred modality to check for CCSVI because it is:

Why Choose Mobile Life Screening for your CCSVI Doppler Screening?

Dr. Zamboni’s research led to the implementation of 5 venous hemodynamic criteria when assessing the veins for CCSVI. At Mobile Life Screening, our vascular ultrasound technologists assess you for CCSVI based on these 5 criteria.

Mobile Life Screening ultrasound technologists have completed advanced CCSVI doppler ultrasound training at the Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center (BNAC) in Buffalo, NY. The BNAC is regarded as one of the top institutions in the world performing multiple sclerosis research.

The fact of the matter is that diagnostic ultrasound is a very operator dependent modality. CCSVI doppler screening is highly intensive and should only be performed by vascular ultrasound technologists with the proper training. At Mobile Life Screening, you can rest assured that a properly trained and qualified ultrasound technologist will be performing your CCSVI doppler screening to the highest standards.

How much does the  CCSVI doppler screening cost?

The cost for our CCSVI doppler screening is as follows:

Initial CCSVI doppler screening - $549.00 USD

          Follow-up CCSVI doppler screening - $299.00 USD
