A renal ultrasound uses reflected sound waves to image the kidneys and bladder.
Images are taken of the kidneys and bladder.
A renal ultrasound takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
We would prefer you not eat anything 4 hours prior to the exam in order to minimize the amount of gas in your abdomen. You should have a full bladder for the exam.
Your study will be interpreted by a Board Certified Radiologist.
You may want a renal ultrasound if you feel you are having problems with your kidneys or bladder. Some typical reasons for having a renal ultrasound are a suspected kidney stone, cyst, mass, or other obstruction in the kidney or bladder.
