General Screening Questions

What is the purpose of preventative health screenings?

Preventive health screenings are an affordable and effective way to identify hidden disease risk. For many people, getting screened is the first step in early intervention to prevent a small problem from becoming a bigger problem. It helps educate people about their risks so that they can consult with their doctor and take the right steps towards a healthier future.

Are your screenings 100% accurate?

Mobile Life Screening is aware of the concerns surrounding the quality of preventive public health screenings, and has taken every measure to ensure our screenings are of the highest quality. No test is 100% accurate, but our results are comparable to those you would receive in an accredited hospital vascular lab.

Mobile Life  Screening uses state-of-the-art doppler/color flow ultrasound technology and ARDMS registered ultrasound technologists to perform our screenings. All results are then reviewed by board-certified physicians to ensure accuracy. Written reports are mailed to the participants within 3 weeks.

Can't my physician just order these screenings for me?

No, the healthcare system typically does not allow your physician to order these tests for you if you have no symptoms.  If you are asymptomatic, meaning you are not yet sick and feel well, but have risk factors such as age, family history of disease or certain health conditions, the healthcare system is not well designed to take preventative steps towards your good health. We are quite good at treating illness once symptoms occur; but for many diseases like stroke, the first symptom is a stroke. Eighty percent of stroke victims have no apparent symptoms or warning signs.

Does health insurance cover professional health screenings?

Insurance coverage varies from policy to policy. We will provide you with a detailed receipt that can be submitted to your insurance company to determine coverage.

How often should I have these screenings done?

If your screening results show any abnormalities, we recommend you be screened on a yearly basis. Otherwise, once every 2-3 years should be fine. This is a personal decision based on your family history, age and other risk factors as well as the results of your screenings. Since plaque buildup is a progressive disease, many people feel comfortable being screened annually as part of their preventative healthcare regimen.

How long do the screenings take?

It depends on which of our packages and screenings you would like to have done.  A typical vascular screening takes approximately 30 minutes.  Our heart screenings (echocardiograms) generally take 45 minutes to complete.

I work during the day. Can I schedule a screening later in the day?

We try to accommodate people’s work schedules with varied check-in times. We hold our screenings on weekdays and weekends to try and accommodate everyone.

When and how will I receive my health screening results?

You will receive your results in the mail within 3 weeks. However, if we find a condition that requires immediate attention, you will be notified on the day of your screening and you will receive images of the findings to take to your doctor.

Why does it take up to 3 weeks to get the results?

Your results will be reviewed by our board-certified physicians, and then they will be sent on for processing and mailing. However, if we find a condition that requires immediate attention, we will notify you on the day of your screening and give you images to take to your physician.

I work; do you offer screenings on the weekends?

We try to schedule our screenings during various times of the week to accommodate different lifestyles. Many of our screenings are done on weekends throughout the year.

At what age should I be screened?

We recommend our screenings to anyone 45 years of age or older.  If you have a strong family history of heart disease or stroke, you may want to be screened at an earlier age.

Do I get the results or will they be given directly to my doctor?

You will receive a detailed report of your results in the mail within 3 weeks.
