CCSVI Screening Questions

What is a Doppler Ultrasound?

Diagnostic Doppler ultrasonography is a diagnostic imaging technique used to visualize body structures below the skin surface including muscles, joints, blood vessels and internal organs for possible pathology. Many women are familiar with the Ultrasounds they had during their pregnancy and the images of their babies that were produced. The term "Ultrasound" applies to all sounds above the audible range of sound of 20 kilohertz and the "Doppler" equipment configures and represents images of sound waves to a color screen. It is useful for assessing whether blood flows are moving towards or away from the probe (called a transducer), as well as relative speed. By calculating the frequency shift of a particular sample volume, the flow in an artery or vein be determined and visualized to the screen. This technique becomes especially important in CCSVI where the reverse blood flow due to a narrowing or stenosis in the jugular vein can be seen and measured.

How long does the screening take?

The screening generally takes anywhere from 45 – 75 minutes to complete.

Will I be lying flat for the entire exam?

You will be lying flat for two thirds of the exam. You will be in the upright position for the remaining one third.

Does the screening have any risk?

The Doppler Ultrasound procedure is non-invasive and without risk to the patient. The World Health Organization supports that ultrasound is harmless: "Diagnostic ultrasound is recognized as a safe, effective, and highly flexible imaging modality capable of providing clinically relevant information about most parts of the body in a rapid and cost-effective fashion".

How do I prepare for the screening?

Just a few instructions for the Doppler Ultrasound Examination:

  1. Eat only a light meal within 4 hours of the scan but there is no reason to fast.
  2. Make sure you drink at least 16 oz. of water within 2 hrs prior to the screening.
  3. Wear an open neck shirt or blouse and please, no turtlenecks
  4. No chains, necklaces or jewelry of any kind worn around the head or neck area
  5. Do not chew gum

How much does the CCSVI doppler screening cost?

The "initial" CCSVI doppler screening cost is $549.00 USD.  All "follow-up" CCSVI doppler screenings cost $299.00 USD.

Do you provide any "treatment" options for CCSVI?

Yes we do.  Mobile Life Screening has affiliations with a number of surgical centers and hospitals throughout the United States who provide the "liberation treatment".  The physicians we recommend have already performed a large number of procedures and our patients have seen incredible results.  The treatment and care you will receive at any of our affiliated sites  is second to none and the cost is amongst the lowest you will find anywhere.  Call Mobile Life Screening at (888)602-8378 for more details.

Regarding the Doppler Ultrasound scan, or screening, can you provide me with more details of what they will be checking for?

Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) is a newly identified finding in some people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. The condition occurs when there is narrowing of the veins draining blood from the brain. There is lots of discussion about how this narrowing may contribute to the symptoms that are present with MS, and much of this remains controversial.

Doppler ultrasound scan will provide pictures of the veins in your neck which can identify if there is any narrowing that may suggest that CCSVI is present. The narrowing can result in slower (insufficient) blood drainage and in some cases turbulence in the flow of blood which may have some relationship to MS symptoms.

Will a written report be provided for the results of my scan?

Yes. A written report will be mailed to you within 15 business days.  If you require your report sooner, we can make arrangements to have it emailed to you within a few days.  A CD copy of your exam is also available for a small additional charge.

Can the technician tell me anything while the scan is going on?

No, unfortunately a qualified physician must review/read the scan to ensure accuracy and consistency of results. This can be frustrating but is considered best practice in all such tests in all clinical circumstances.

Is there a possibility of a "false negative" or "false positive" for my scan?

Mobile Life Screening has taken every measure to ensure our screenings are of the highest quality. No test is 100% accurate, but our results are comparable to those you would receive in an accredited hospital vascular lab. Mobile Life Screening uses state-of-the-art doppler/color flow ultrasound technology and ARDMS registered ultrasound technologists to perform our CCSVI screenings. All results are then reviewed by board-certified physicians to ensure accuracy.
